(Pastor Fermin & Clara Ortega

Our church started with the vision of the Indian Creek Association recognizing the growing population of the Hispanic people in the Southwest Missouri area. After months of prayer and searching the association was able to purchase the current church building, make repairs and secure finances from the association to supply the utilities, insurance and most of the needs of the church. The Missouri Free Will Baptist Mission Board supplied the pastor salary and hired Bud and Ruth Bivens to come and begin the work in the Monett and Purdy area. The church started in January of 2003 in the acquired church which is located between Monett and Purdy just off of hwy 37.

After Bud and Ruth built the church to over a 50 person attendance they saw the need for a Hispanic pastor. It was then that Pastor Fermin and his family moved to Missouri from Reynosa, Mexico to resume the Hispanic ministry for the State of Missouri. Since then Pastor Fermin has began a Saturday Radio Program in Monett that ministers to the Hispanic culture in the area and has organized a Hispanic Ministerial Alliance in which he became the President of.

Besides being a leader in the Hispanic Ministerial Alliance and having his weekly radio program, Pastor Fermin is also active in the local Jails to try to help the Spanish speaking individuals who seek guidence in thier lives. As a hobby, he enjoys coaching a seasonal, local Soccer team in the area.

The Fall of 2007 was a time of change for the church in that they were able to be less financially dependent on the Indian Creek Association and began the course of becoming a self-reliant church. This has not been easy for the church since the Hispanic culture in America is not only transient but it also sends a good percentage of personal finances to families in their home countries to support them.

The church is currently making plans to either move to a larger facility or to build nearby to better allow for growth in this ministry. They invite you to join them in their services as they Worship God and give praise to His Son, Jesus.

Palabras de Vida has children’s classes the church regularly has a cook out fellowship when weather permits on the church grounds after Sunday morning worship. They are also actively involved in the Hispanic Alliance doing many social functions in the Monett area.
